Prosecutors file murder charge against man arrested in SF

Prosecutors filed a murder charge Wednesday against a 52-year-old man who was arrested in the Portola neighborhood earlier this week, authorities said.

Jose Mata was arrested Monday on Williams Avenue and Reddy Street and booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder. Mata is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Police were not immediately available to confirm which homicide he was arrested in connection with.

Mata is being held without bail.
