Police seek two suspects in SF double homicide

Police on Monday were searching the area near Crocker Amazon Playground for two male suspects involved in a double homicide.

The victims, two men who are both in their early 20s, were found shot to death in a car.

As of Monday afternoon, police had not released the names of the victims.

Officers responded to the scene on reports of a shooting at 9:36 a.m. and quickly found the victims but no suspects. A 911 caller said one victim appeared to still be alive, although both were eventually pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that one suspect might have fled on foot and the other in a vehicle, Officer Albie Esparza said.

There was a Recreation and Park Department crew working near the shooting, replacing poles in the parking lot when the incident occurred. At least two workers were interviewed by police. Their department-issued vehicle was parked near the victims’ tan Chevy Camaro.

One worker, who asked not to be identified, said he heard nine shots ring out in rapid succession and saw even more shell casings, about 15, near the Camaro. The right front passenger window was blown out by gunfire, and bloody clothing was strewn across the concrete.

The parking lot, which is adjacent to a soccer field and marked by signs that warn children are at play, was closed off into the afternoon as police combed the area and interviewed witnesses.

Esparza said the motive for the crime is unclear.
