Police officer shot, suspect killed in Sunset district

A San Francisco police officer was shot Friday night in the Sunset district and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital while a suspect was shot and killed in a residential backyard.

Police reportedly were conducting a search for a felony suspect in the area of 25th Avenue and Lawton Street when an exchange of gunfire occurred just before 8:30 p.m. The condition of the officer who was shot was not given late Friday. Neither the officer’s nor the suspect’s identities were revealed. A coroner’s van was on the scene in the quiet residential neighborhood on Friday night. Police officials were not able to comment on the shootings by press time.
