Person killed on Caltrain tracks in San Mateo

The death is transit agency’s third fatality of 2019

Trains were temporarily stopped Friday afternoon after a person was fatally struck by Caltrain on the tracks in San Mateo, Caltrain officials said.

Southbound train 254 hit the person on the tracks near the Hillsdale station at 3:19 p.m., according to Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew.

All trains were stopped in the area for an investigation.

Passengers were warned to expect delays up to 30 minutes, Bartholomew said.

The death is Caltrain’s third fatality of 2019.
