Parking of personal vehicles will be restricted on the north and south ends of the Golden Gate Bridge between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday through Jan. 1, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District said Friday.
The restricted parking over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays is intended to mitigate significant traffic backups as visitors queue for a limited number of parking spaces.
Visitors can still access the Welcome Center at the south end of the Bridge and the Vista Point overlooks at the north end by public transit, bicycle, tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi or ride-sharing services. Visitors also can park in overflow lots along Lincoln Boulevard and in the Presidio.
Taxis and ride-sharing vehicles are allowed to drop off and pick up passengers at the Welcome Center only and will not be allowed to enter Vista Point. Taxi or ride-sharing staging or waiting will not be allowed, and ride-sharing vehicles will need a decal or other identification.
The Welcome Center will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends. Cafes will be open to serve food and drinks. The Welcome Center will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Electronic signs in advance of the Bridge will notify drivers about the parking lot closures, and signs will be placed on the Bridge itself leading up to the Vista Point exit.
