One-year-old in critical condition after shooting

A one-year-old child is in critical condition after a shooting in West Oakland on Monday injured eight people, police said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 6 p.m. near Seventh and Willow streets, police said.

All of the victims — including men, at least one woman and a child — were taken to hospitals before officers arrived, according to police.

No suspects are in custody and no suspect description was immediately available.

An employee at a nearby restaurant said he heard around 30 to 40 gunshots at around 6 p.m. but did not see the shooter or shooters.

The restaurant worker said he was shocked by the violence.

“It used to be peaceful around here,” he said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Major Crimes Unit at (510) 238-3821.
