San Francisco Public Utilities Commission officials today are investigating the cause of a water main break that occurred on Treasure Island on Monday.
The water main broke on Bayside Drive at around 8:20 a.m., according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
It doesn't appear that a contractor working nearby hit the water main but excavating may have undermined thesoil, said Tony Winnicker, a public utilities commission spokesman.
Water was restored to the two apartment buildings that were affected by about 5 p.m., Winnicker said.
The apartment buildings are old U.S. Navy housing units, where water main breaks have occurred before, according to Winnicker.
