Newsom’s City Hall holiday bash to cost $66K

Mayor Gavin Newsom is holding the first-of-its kind holiday party at City Hall on Sunday and all are invited. Many supervisors and other elected officials are taking part in the event, opening up their offices and sending out invites of their own.

Music, food and even a snow-park area are planned. And the cost rings in at an estimated $66,000. But according to Newsom’s spokesman Tony Winnicker none of the costs are being footed by the taxpayers. Instead it’s money from donors.

Here’s the breakdown The San Francisco Examiner obtained:

“Indoor costs for catering and characters, entertainment are $5,000, paid for by special events fund private contributions for civic events (same fund that paid for lighting City Hall for Giants, World AIDS Day, holidays, etc.)”

“The outdoor costs (snow park, mobile zoo, and crowd-favorite ‘jumpy houses’) amount to $61,000 and will be covered by sponsors including Wells Fargo, Target, Alpine, Levi’s, Westfield, Verizon, Safeway, and Comcast.”

The official City Hall Holiday Open House runs from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. The snow park will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Civic Center’s Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Piazza. A mobile zoo for children will be around from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The event includes a Holiday Food Drive. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable foods to support the San Francisco Food Bank.
