Mayor Gavin Newsom has been dogged in the past for not being able to juggle a statewide campaign and his duties at City Hall. Lesson learned. Newsom managed to make an appearance at Tuesday’s Chamber of Commerce City Summit event while he was down in Los Angeles campaigning for the lieutenant governor’s race.
Newsom popped up on video screen early in the event, with a pre-recorded speech that spun all the bad economic news about San Francisco’s economy into something bright.
Yes, The City is still suffering a nearly 10 percent unemployment rate, and more jobs could be lost, but that’s still three percentage points behind the state, and it’s lower than most counties in California, Newsom said. “We are doing remarkably better than almost any other city or county in the state of California,” the mayor said.
Still, 30,000 jobs lost is nothing to brag about.
