More than 200 guests have started to descend upon a small Montana hamlet to attend the wedding of Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel — nuptials that have been shrouded in secrecy, in sharp contrast to the mayor’s 2001 wedding.
The wedding is scheduled for Saturday evening at the Siebel family’s Bitterroot Ranch, where Jennifer’s parents grow hay and raise cattle. The reception dinner is planned on the ranch as well, with one warning that locals said guests should heed: Bring mosquito repellent.
The whole event is much more low-key instyle than the very public celebration at Newsom’s 2001 wedding to then-San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Guilfoyle. Members of the media were actually invited to attend those festivities, while this time they’ve been shut out.
The guest list this weekend is also relatively small compared with the 500 guests that attended Newsom’s 2001 reception, a $232,616.90 party held at the Pacific Heights mansion of Ann and Gordon Getty. No one on the Board of Supervisors was invited to this Saturday’s wedding.
Nonetheless, those invited will still receive top-shelf treatment. About 100 local workers — one for every two guests — from security to busboys, are expected to wait on every need. There are so many people working the party that a local organic deli was called in to provide food for them.
Details of the toned-down ceremony have been closely guarded by Siebel and her family, though she did reveal that her wedding gown was designed by New York-based Vera Wang — the same designer that created Guilfoyle’s dress.
For Stevensville, Mont., a town of just more than 1,500 people that has been home to prominent politicians such as former senator and presidential candidate George McGovern, a political powerhouse is nothing to get excited about.
“Nobody changes their life, no matter who comes to town,” said Gene Mim Mack, a former Santa Clara resident who now runs the Stevensville Hotel. “We treat everyone the same whether you’re a billionaire or the homeless guy down the street.”
Several wedding guests are reportedly staying at Mack’s hotel, though he said he never divulges guest information. For other attendees, several homes have been made available at the Stock Farm Club, an exclusive gated community complete with a golf course and club house where the couple hosted a wedding party Thursday night.
“The one remarkable thing in life is that no matter who you are or how much money you have or whatever your position and status, the one thing you can’t force upon someone else is love,” Newsom said Tuesday. “When you find it, you have to celebrate it, and I’m proud to celebrate it this weekend.”
