Mayor Gavin Newsom’s true feelings about hybrid cars came out this morning at a press conference touting a new completely electric-powered sports car from the San Carlos-based Tesla Motors. The mayor, while applauding hybrids and the technology that reduces greenhouse emissions, said, “half way is no way.”
“I’m not anti-hybrid,” he added. “I’m still mixed on hybrids.”
“This is electric; this is the real deal,” he said pointing to the 2008 Tesla Roadster. Newsom owned GMC’s EV-1 – an electric vehicle sold in the 1990s – and said he was “fanatical about it” and the promise it held. The mayor is on a waiting list to own a Tesla vehicle.
