Newsmaker: Jackie Speier

Only months after the Congress member won a special election to fill the expiring term of the late Rep. Tom Lantos, the 58-year-old former attorney beat out three other opponents in the Democratic primary for the 12th Congressional District on Tuesday. If Speier wins in November, she will hold the House seat for the next twoyear term, from January 2009 to January 2011.
