Whether or not Muni arrives on time, transit customers now have access to a service that will give them an instant heads-up.
Muni Alerts, announced by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency on Tuesday, sends real-time text and email notifications on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. for specific routes and lines selected by the user. Customers can sign up at www.sfmta.com and have the ability to change their subscription on the website or through a link in their email.
“Our ridership surveys show that reliability is key for our customers,” said the SFMTA's chairman, Tom Nolan, in a statement. “When Muni service is disrupted, this kind of information is what our customers expect and deserve.”
The agency will also continue to send updates through its main Twitter account, @sfmta_muni.
Next month, the SFMTA will roll out the second phase of its subscription-driven service. SFMTA Updates will disseminate the latest information on the agency's various projects and initiatives, such as pedestrian improvements, as well as news releases.
