Mayor welcomes census tour

Mayor Gavin Newsom will welcome the 2010 Census “Portrait of America Road Tour” when it comes to San Francisco’s City Hall at noon Monday. The event is part of a nationwide effort to increase awareness and participation in the once-a-decade population count. The “Road Tour” stops at the San Mateo Adult School at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Census information is used to reapportion congressional seats and affects how federal funding is distributed to state and local governments.
