Mayor spending holiday with family

Will Mayor Gavin Newsom be eating turkey on Thanksgiving?

Hard to know. The Mayor’s Office has been tight-lipped about Newsom’s plans for the holiday, saying only that he is spending Wednesday and Thursday with family.

But don’t worry. Newsom won’t be out of sight long. The mayor plans to attend the Macy’s 20th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Union Square on Friday at 5:45 p.m., spokesman Joe Arellano said.

He will also be in City Hall on Friday making certain all is in order before he hops on a plane for Bangalore, India, a San Francisco sister city, Arellano said.

The mayor will meet there with representatives of major companies including Cisco Systems, Infosys Technologies and Cathay Pacific Airways, he said. His mission is to strengthen The City’s economic ties overseas, he said.

Newsom will return to The City on Wednesday, Arellano said.
