The 24 competitors in one of the world’s premier surfing competitions, the Mavericks Surf Contest, voted Monday not to hold the event Wednesday. Despite a large swell expected to hit Half Moon Bay today, the proper wind conditions are not expected, contest organizers said. Two of the past three Mavericks were canceled. Some competitors are in Hawaii for the Eddie Aikau Invitational, which was scheduled to begin Monday but was postponed.
