Man suspected of robbing Redwood City apartment while resident slept

An East Palo Alto man has landed in custody on suspicion of robbing a Redwood City apartment while the resident slept, according to police.

Redwood City police investigators said they believe Danny Dixon Jr., 33, entered the apartment in the 600 block of Topaz Street in Redwood City through an unlocked door about 9:20 a.m.

The suspect took the victim's cellphone and was seen leaving the apartment by neighbors, according to police.

While the pilfering was being done, a 58-year-old resident of the apartment was sleeping inside. Later, one neighbor knocked on the victim's door and discovered he was not aware that someone had entered his home and taken his phone, police said.

The victim reported the incident to police. Officers responded, obtained a suspect description and searched the area, but were unable to locate the perpetrator.

About two hours later, an officer spotted Dixon walking near the intersection of James Avenue and Grand Street and noticed that he matched the suspect description.

He was detained and positively identified by witnesses as the man they saw exiting the apartment, police said.

The victim's cellphone was recovered and Dixon was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary.
