Man struck, killed while walking on freeway

A man was killed today after being struck by at least one vehicle while walking along the center divide of southbound state Highway 242 just south of Grant Street in Concord, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 6:30 p.m., the CHP received numerous reports of a man in a brown shirt and dark pants walking along the highway. At about 6:38 p.m., the CHP reported that he had been hit several times.

Witnesses have been moved to the center divide for interviewing, said the CHP. The Nos. 1 and 2 have been closed to traffic but two lanes remain open.
