A turf war over a Tenderloin street corner escalated into a shooting Wednesday night, police said.

The 24-year-old victim was standing with a friend near the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street about 11:10 p.m. when two armed male suspects and a third female suspect approached him, Office Albie Esparza said.

One of the suspects, described as a 5-foot-8 man in his 40s, wearing a black hoodie and chinchilla hat, reportedly wielded a handgun and told the pair to stop peddling pills on “his block.” The suspect then fired multiple shots, hitting the victim in the leg, according to Esparza.

The second male victim, described as 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, was allegedly carrying a firearm with a large magazine but did not fire it. All three suspects headed westbound on Golden Gate Avenue, fleeing on foot.

The victim was found conscious and lying on the sidewalk when officers responded to the scene. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for nonlife threatening injuries.
