Man robs mother carrying 1-year-old baby in the Bayview

A heartless goon robbed a mother carrying her child in the Bayview on Tuesday, knocking the woman down in the process, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was carrying her 1-year-old child and holding her smartphone in the 300 block of Wheeler Street about 12:15 p.m. when a man, who appeared to be in his 20s, grabbed her smartphone, police said.

The victim resisted and fell to the ground trying to protect her baby, police said.

The crook fled with the phone and no arrest has been made.

The victim sustained scratches to her hand and head and a swollen cheek, police said. She was treated at the hospital for the injuries, which were not life threatening.
