Man robbed of backpack's contents near Civic Center BART Station

A man was robbed as he exited the Civic Center BART Station on Thursday, police said.

The 24-year-old victim was exiting the station about 4:20 p.m. when the suspect in the robbery, a man who appeared to be in hiis 20s, asked the victim if he remembered him. The victim said no so the suspect grabbed him by the throat, then shifted his grip to the back of the victim's neck and pushed him down Market Street, police said.

The suspect then grabbed the victim's backpack and took out the victim's cellphone and cash and ditched the backpack before fleeing the scene.
