Man killed during Lower Haight brawl ID'd

Anthony Jones, 53, has been identified as the man who was stabbed to death Friday during a vicious brawl in the Lower Haight neighborhood, authorities said.

Jones was stabbed after he brutally beat a 43-year-old man with a shovel in the 500 block of Page Street after 10:30 a.m. The 43-year-old then fatally stabbed Jones, witnesses said.

Jones was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital. The condition of the 43-year-old man, who has yet to be identified, remains unknown.

The two men apparently knew each other, according to Haighteration, the blog website that reported on the attack and posted photos on Friday.

Residents fear a connection between the deadly brawl and a car fire Monday morning in which the body of a woman was found charred beyond recognition.
