Man found with gunshot wound in Marina District doorway dies

A 32-year-old man found with a gunshot wound Saturday morning in the Marina District has died, and his death is being investigated as a homicide, according to police.

Kelly Freeman was found lying in a doorway at 12:10 a.m. near Alhambra Street and Mallorca Way by officers after someone called for a welfare check.

Freeman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where his gunshot wound was discovered. He died at the hospital.

Freeman’s killing marks The City’s 23rd homicide this year.
