A 62-year-old man endured a harrowing home invasion Thursday. Thieves stormed into his home, threw a blanket over his head, bound his hands and feet, beat him and then ransacked the place before making off with his car, gold coins and other loot, police said.

Officers responded about 7 a.m. to a home in the 2600 block of Post Street, near Laurel Heights.

The terrified resident said he was lying on his couch when he heard a loud pounding noise in the back of his house. At first he thought it was an earthquake, but three thugs had just broken in, Officer Albie Esparza said.

“They put a blanket over his head and duct-taped his hands and feet as he lay on his couch,” Esparza said. “His house was ransacked, and the suspects beat him on the head asking him questions, such as where the jewelry and money were.”

At one point, the robbers untied the man’s feet, walked him to the bathroom and forced him into the tub, where he remained until he heard the crooks driving away, Esparza said.

A neighbor heard the man’s screams for help and came to his aid while police responded.

“He did not require medical attention,” Esparza said.

The victim reportedly said he wasn’t able to get a good look at the suspects with his head coverede. Along with his car and gold coins the man said he lost cash, credit cards, his watch and jewelry in the robbery, Esparza said.
