A man was critically injured after being struck by a car in the Richmond early Thursday morning, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
Arriving officers found the 50-year-old victim underneath the car at a gas station at 24th Avenue and Geary Boulevard about 3:36 a.m.
Police at the scene told reporters that the vehicle was at the gas station to fix a flat tire. The victim, who was reportedly loitering at the gas station, and the two men in the car at some point had some kind of interaction, the nature of which was unknown, police said. At some point, the victim collapsed near the back of the car and was run over, with his head reportedly being struck by one of the tires.
The driver of the car, a 4-door, green Acura, was taken into custody and booked on charges of drunken driving and resisting arrest, Esparza said. He was identified as 32-year-old San Francisco resident Phat Lam.
The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition.
