Man assaulted, robbed of phone near cable car turnaround

A man was reportedly assaulted and robbed of his cellphone near the cable car turnaround at Powell and Market streets early Tuesday.

The 47-year-old victim was waiting at the turnaround just after midnight when two men who appeared to be in their 20s came up and punched him in the face, police said.

The crooks then snatched the victim’s phone and fled.

No arrests have been made.

The victim sustained a laceration to his eye and a bump on his head.
