Man accused in killing rival for woman faces 25 years

A love triangle caused a man to unleash 17 bullets into another man in the Tenderloin on Aug. 19, San Francisco prosecutors said Tuesday.

Grady Sandling, 20, allegedly used a TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun to kill Steven Garrett, 26, after an argument during the early morning hours of Aug. 19, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

The shooting occurred at Jones and O’Farrell streets. Sandling was arrested last week in Oakland and remains in county jail.

Sandling and Garrett had been dating the same woman at the same time, prosecutors said.

Sandling’s arraignment was set for Wednesday morning. He faces 25 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
