Highway 84 blocked in Redwood City

Traffic officials have announced an extended closure on the eastbound lane of state Highway 84 in Redwood City following an accident in which a vehicle slammed into a telephone pole.

The accident occurred at 6:39 a.m. just west of Highway 35 according to reports by the California Highway Patrol.

The telephone pole was snapped in half and is dangling by overhead power lines, CHP officials said.

Officials from Pacific, Gas and Electric are on site to survey the scene, and CHP officers are diverting traffic on to Old La Honda road.
