Highway 101 in Burlingame closed tonight to replace power lines

Highway 101 will close again tonight in Burlingame while utility crews replace damaged power lines after a construction accident Friday night left an electrical tower seriously damaged, according to the CHP.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday, a construction crane crashed into a transmission tower, leaving high voltage lines blocking the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Broadway.

The highway remained closed Friday night and Saturday morning, but reopened Saturday afternoon, according to the CHP.

Highway 101 will close from Anza Boulevard to Broadway at 10 p.m. tonight, and remain closed until 4 a.m. Monday morning while crews finish the repairs, according to Caltrans.

Preparation for that closure will begin at 9 p.m. The pedestrian crossing over Broadway will also close temporarily, Caltrans officials said today in a statement.

The Broadway over-crossing bridge will remain closed until 12 p.m. Monday, as will the northbound and southbound off-ramps from Highway 101 to Broadway, according to Caltrans.

Alternate routes are recommended.
