Girl, 9, almost kidnapped while walking to school in Bayview

A 9-year-old girl was walking to school in Bayview one morning last week when an unknown man tried to kidnap her, police said.

The man grabbed her by the collar and led her toward his brown van near Osceola Drive and La Salle Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

The attempted kidnapping, however, was foiled by a passerby.

No arrests were made. It’s unclear how the suspect got away. No detailed description of him has been released by police.

The girl was treated at the scene for pain to her back and neck.
