During Thursday’s Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee hearing on the Police Department’s proposed budget, Police Chief George Gascón was running up against the clock. The committee heard the police department’s budget proposal first, to accommodate the top cop’s travel plans. The committee graciously told the chief he could leave before the hearing was over.
“I have to leave here shortly, I am flying to Cambridge. Well, I’m flying to Boston to go to Harvard University,” Gascón said.
“I am part of a think-tank that has been working there on ways to reduce cost of public safety and improve efficiencies. As a matter of fact, there is a paper that I have been working for three years that will be published by the National Institute of Justice later this summer.”
