Four men critically injured in stabbing in the Mission

Four men were critically injured in a stabbing in the Mission early Sunday morning, police said. The stabbing was near where another man was fatally stabbed a couple hours later.

The four victims, who ranged in age from mid-20s to 40, engaged in an altercation with two men in the 3000 block of 16th Street about 12:41 a.m., police said.

The two suspects — detailed descriptions of the pair were not provided to police — stabbed the four men and then fled.

One was stabbed in the chest and the others in the back, police said.

They remain hospitalized in life-threatening condition.

The stabbing occurred just three blocks away from where 25-year-old Berkeley resident Casey Bissell was fatally stabbed about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said several people were detained in connection with that stabbing, but no arrests were made as of Monday morning.

Also, a 27-year-old man was shot to death at 20th and Mission streets in a seemingly unrelated homicide about 2 a.m. Sunday.
