Former councilman, insurance appraiser lead pack in Brisbane City Council race

Terry O'Connell

Unofficial results from Tuesday’s City Council race showed Ray Miller and Terry O’Connell leading five-termer Cyril Bologoff.

Miller, a former councilman, led the pack. He was last on the City Council in 1995 and has spent 13 years on the open-space and ecological committee. O’Connell, an insurance appraiser, held a slim lead over Bologoff.

Brisbane, home to about 3,500 people of voting age, has some big issues to face in the next four years, including a development that could bring an additional 4,400 homes.

Bologoff said he had high hopes for the development and the city, while Miller has come out against the project saying it’s “outrageous and clearly contradictory to our small-town character.”

All three candidates said an alternative-energy research site or solar farm would make more sense than a residential development on the 600-acre Baylands site, parts of which are likely contaminated with heavy metals and toxic chemicals.
