Flood advisories for S.F., northern San Mateo County

The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for parts of the Bay Area until 3:15 p.m. today.

The areas affected include northern San Mateo County north through San Francisco, eastern Marin County, southeastern Sonoma County and western Napa County.

According to the weather service, data indicated that some areas were experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall with rates up to an inch per hour.

Where to get sandbags

San Francisco residents may get sandbags at the Department of Public Works yard at 2323 Cesar Chavez St., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

San Mateo County officials are giving away sandbags at 25 locations. Call the local public works department:

There is a limit of 15 bags; requests for additional bags will be considered on a case-by-case basis. When you are done with them, feel free to bring them back to the yard for disposal or simply empty the sand on you lawn and throw the bags away.
