Fatal accident on Bay Bridge

A fatal accident on the westbound section of the Bay Bridge this afternoon will keep the three right lanes of Interstate 80 closed for several hours, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Kroncke said.

The accident occurred between a commercial vehicle and a bobtail truck in the No. 5 lane of the highway just east of Treasure Island at around 1:15 p.m., Kroncke said.

It is unknown which driver was killed in the crash, Kroncke said.

The Nos. 3, 4 and 5 lanes have been closed to allow emergency personnel access to the scene, he said.

A Sig-alert was issued at 1:41 p.m., and the lanes are not expected to open for several hours, according to Kroncke.

Drivers are asked to use Interstate Highway 580 or state Highway 92 as alternative routes.
