Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavel Lazarenko, who settled in the Bay Area after losing a power struggle in his home country, goes before a U.S. District Court judge today in San Francisco for re-sentencing.
Lazarenko was sentenced to nine years in federal prison in 2006 for laundering more than $20 million through U.S. banks, which he embezzled mostly from Ukraine. That sentence was put on hold after the U.S. District Court of Appeals dropped six charges.
Lazarenko has been living somewhere in the Bay Area under house arrest.
