DUI arrest made driver spitting mad

S.F. Examiner File PhotoGreat expectorations: A motorist crashed her car near a bridge toll plaza Saturday; that’s when things got juicy.

This woman was the spitting image of a drunken driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 26-year-old San Francisco woman who crashed her car at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza early Saturday was arrested for “battery on a phlebotomist,” the CHP said, after she allegedly spit on the technician who tested her blood alcohol level.

Shawnte Alexander also was booked on charges of resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer and misdemeanor DUI in connection with the wild tirade, CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said Monday.

About 1:40 a.m., Hohmeister said, a southbound-traveling Alexander, driving with two passengers, crashed her 1992 Lexus SC300 into a toll plaza water buffer. Alexander refused to submit to a breath or blood sample following her arrest, Hohmeister said, and instead became combative.

“After refusing to get into the patrol car, a CHP officer attempted to assist Alexander into the vehicle and was kicked in the left side of his face,” Hohmeister said.

Alexander reportedly spit and thrashed until CHP officers restrained her and took her to the Mission Police Station in San Francisco.

There, she violently resisted a blood alcohol test, Hohmeister said. Alexander “repeatedly attempted to bite the CHP officers and was successful in spitting upon the blood tech,” he said.

Thankfully, Hohmeister said, no one was injured. The passengers in Alexander’s car also were not hurt.
