Driver dies when car plunges off I-580

The driver of a vehicle that plunged off Interstate 580 in unincorporated Alameda County just east of Livermore this morning was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle drove off the right shoulder of eastbound I-580 at the Stonecut Overpass near Altamont Pass Road at 9:16 a.m., CHP Officer Steve Creel said.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, Creel said.
