Demoted chief lands at Central Station

Kevin Cashman, the former assistant chief demoted to captain in the wake of the crime lab scandal, is now in charge of Central Station, which covers North Beach, Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Cashman was faulted for negligence after red flags were raised about problems in the crime lab. Hundreds of drug cases have since been dismissed because of drug tampering, though it’s unclear how much Cashman knew about the growing scandal.

Another officer demoted to captain, John Loftus, has been transferred to the Airport Bureau investigative team.
