Decaying body found in Golden Gate Park

A Rec and Park worker found a decaying body in Golden Gate Park this morning.

The body was discovered just before 8 a.m. near 8th Avenue and Fulton Street, said police Sgt. Wilfred Williams.

A park employee was working in the area at 7:55 a.m. when he noticed a bad odor. He sought out the source of the smell and discovered the decaying body, Williams said.

Police are still investigating the cause of the death, and for now it is being investigated as a suspicious death, he said.

An officer at the San Francisco Police Department’s Richmond station said the body was female, but Williams would not confirm the gender or age.
