David Chiu's campaign touts fundraising, poll

The race between the Davids for the state Assembly is rapidly heating up, with the first debate on tap for Thursday evening and the possibility of an early key endorsement next month buzzing in the political circles.

On Wednesday, David Chiu's campaign touted his fundraising and what they say is an early lead in the race, based on an internal campaign poll.
The San Francisco Young Democrats are holding the first debate in the race between Chiu and David Campos, and the same night the group will be holding its endorsement.

On the eve of the debate, Chiu's campaign released a statement that he had raised $450,655. In addition, according to the campaign, as of Dec. 31, his campaign still had $400,732 in cash on hand.

The campaign also touted a poll conducted by Lake Research Partners that has Chiu up 12 percentage points — 37 percent to Campos' 25 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percent.

Asked by The San Francisco Examiner about the race, not relating to the poll, Campos said, “It is close.”
