Crocker Amazon Park sex assault suspect charged

Prosecutors on Wednesday charged an 18-year-old man with multiple felonies for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman who had been jogging Friday in Crocker Amazon Park.

The 38-year-old woman was jogging near the basketball court above the park’s soccer field when she was pulled to a grassy area and assaulted at about 4:30 p.m., according to police. The suspect then fled on foot into the nearby Sunnydale public housing development.

Police released a sketch and description of the suspect to the public on Tuesday, and officers arrested Xavier Neal, of San Francisco, that evening.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday charged Neal with two counts of forced oral copulation, and one count each of aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping in the commission of a sexual assault, assault with intent to commit rape and criminal threats, spokeswoman Erica Derryck said.

Neal is due to be arraigned on the charges in San Francisco Superior Court on Thursday.
