San Francisco will be increasing police presence at San Francisco’s Lunar New Year celebrations today in response to the mass shooting event in Monterey Park, near Los Angeles, on Jan. 21.Â
Mayor London Breed announced the move over Twitter on Jan. 22, as information surrounding the Southern California shooting continues to develop. Thus far, 10 people have been confirmed dead and another 10 wounded, the Associated Press reported.
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting in Southern California on Lunar New Year’s Eve and are thinking of the victims and their families. This is a time when people should be celebrating with loved ones and friends, not mourning yet another act of brutal violence.
The initial incident took place at a ballroom dance club in Monterey Park, California, following Lunar New Year festivities. The towns’ Lunar New celebration is the second largest in Southern California, according to the Associated Press. Activities scheduled for Sunday were canceled.Â
Police are exploring a possible connection between the shooting and a second incident Sunday at a dance club in Alhambra, California. Â
