San Francisco police announced on Wednesday afternoon that a 57-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly killed one person and injured three others when he crashed a carjacked, city-owned vehicle during a chase.
Carlo Watson was booked into jail just after midnight on Tuesday on suspicion of several crimes including murder, vehicular manslaughter and carjacking, according to San Francisco Sheriff's Office records.
He is being held without bail, and he currently has no scheduled court date.Â
The San Francisco Police Department said officers detained Watson following the Tuesday morning crash, which occurred near Franklin Square at the intersection of 16th Street and Potrero Avenue.Â
Watson and four others were injured in the collision. Police said 58-year-old man later died of his wounds, though authorities did not release his name. The three other victims' injuries weren't life-threatening, according to police.
Police learned of the carjacking about 10 a.m. that day, and officers later located the city-owned vehicle in the area of Kansas and 25th streets in Potrero Hill.
Police chased the stolen vehicle from Potrero Hill to the intersection of 16th Street and Potrero Avenue, where KPIX reported the vehicle crashed into an SUV.
An investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing, and police said anyone with information can call 415-575-4444.
