Charges are expected against at least one man involved in a fatal crash during a police chase Thursday in East Palo Alto. Investigators continue their search for a second suspect who fled from police.
Following a reported shooting near the intersection of Fordham Street and Rutgers Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Arsend Boutte, 39, of Milpitas, was struck and killed by a black Cadillac being chased by police.
One of the suspects in the Cadillac, a 23-year-old San Francisco man, was arrested after a brief foot chase and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, according to East Palo Alto police Detective Jeff Liu. The other escaped and is still wanted by police.
The suspect who was arrested has since posted $100,000 bail and police are expected to file charges against him with the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office “very shortly,” Liu said.
Police are still investigating the man's alleged involvement in the shooting, according to Liu.
“We still need to clear some things up,” Liu said.
Officers investigating the initial report had witnessed a vehicle speeding away from the area and gave chase, according to police.
Boutte had been driving a Dodge Neon near the intersection of University Avenue and Bay Road when the Cadillac being pursued by police drove over a center median and collided with the Neon, according to police.
Police later discovered evidence that a shooting had occurred in the 1700 block of Tulane Avenue but said no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.
