Cal, Stanford top volleyball rankings

The Stanford women’s volleyball team — which lost in the championship match each of the past two seasons — is ranked No. 2 in the preseason by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Cal, which is coming off a Final Four appearance, is ranked No. 5. Penn State, which beat the Cardinal in this spring’s final, is No. 1. Stanford has 11 letterwinners back, including national Player of the Year Foluke Akinradewo.
