Cal frosh has surgery

Cal freshman men's basketball player Omondi Amoke had surgery to remove a vascular abnormality from his right calf.

Rehabilitation is expected to last about eight weeks. A 6-foot-6, 225-pound forward from Oxnard, Amoke was his league's Player of the Year for 2007 at Oxnard High School after averaging 20.3 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.

The Golden Bears host Alaska-Fairbanks in an exhibition game in Haas Pavilion on Nov. 8, then open the regular season at home against Southern Mississippi on Nov. 14.
