A cabdriver was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning as he parked his taxi near his South City home, police said.
The 56-year-old cabdriver was allegedly approached by two black men after he parked his Ford Crown Victoria cab on the 700 block of Commercial Avenue between Eucalyptus and Orange avenues at 3:52 a.m. The men ordered the cabdriver out of the car at gunpoint and searched him and the vehicle, authorities said.
The pair fled with a few hundred dollars in cash, three credit cards and a set of keys, including a key to the taxi, Sgt. Mike Riordan said.
The suspects, both described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with a medium build, wearing dark clothing and dark baseball caps, were seen fleeing on foot northbound on Orange Avenue.
Riordan said one suspect was armed with a silver or chrome revolver and wore a white cloth over his nose and mouth.
Police said a fellow cabdriver reported seeing two black males in the area the night before, but it is unknown whether they were the suspects in the armed robbery.
