Board committee to grill Muni on management issues at hearing Thursday

The management practices of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will be scrutinized by The City’s Board of Supervisors on Thursday.

Excess overtime costs and questionable work orders—bills paid to other city departments—will be the focus of the hearing, to be held at 10 a.m. by the Supervisor’s Government Audit and Oversight Committee.

Supervisor David Campos, a member of the committee, has been particularly critical of the SFMTA’s handling of overtime and work order costs. Campos is pushing an initiative to provide free Muni rides for The City’s youth, and he has said that reducing spending in those aforementioned areas could help pay for the service. Campos has also said that the agency could find cost savings from its capital projects.

Sonali Bose, the SFMTA’s chief financial officer, and Debra Johnson, the agency’s director of administration, will answer questions at the hearing.
