Bernal Heights Park homicide victim ID’d

A man found stabbed to death in Bernal Heights Park on Thursday morning has been identified as a 33-year-old San Francisco man, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Giovanny Alvarez was found by a jogger at about 5:30 a.m., who notified police. Responding officers found Alvarez on the ground and suffering from wounds just inside the Anderson Street gate.

Emergency personnel pronounced Alvarez dead at the scene.

San Francisco police plan to hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 515 Cortland Ave. about the killing.
